Watab Town Board Meeting Minutes

November 21 & 22, 2006



The Watab Town Board met in Special Meeting at the Watab Town Hall on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 7pm. Chair Craig Gondeck called the meeting to order; it was held for the purpose of further discussion on engineering standards for township roads. Other board members present were Supervisors Lloyd Erdmann and Brad McIntosh and Clerk Pat Spence. Bob Erickson, Township Road Engineering Consultant and Brian Erdmann were also present. The Chair added one agenda item, which was to discuss equipment for the new town hall.


Some of the key items discussed were: escrow amount should be $2,500; add a utility standard with the recommendation to stubbing out the utilities to a minimum of four feet behind the curb, add join utility trenches, place shut off water valves behind the curb, all catch basins must be approved by the township road consultant, 8-inch minimum cover over culverts is required between culvert and blacktop, disclaimer added, all road crossings need concrete culverts, drain tile should be one foot behind the curb, second wear course on blacktop should not be added before June 1, clarify #26, and change #27.


Bob Erickson will add the changes and make necessary revisions for another review at a future meeting. He will write these changes on a separate sheet and will also have the drawings of road sections completed.


Bob recommended that the board complete a road history with GPS determinations of corners of existing town roads.


On motion by Supervisor Gondeck and second by Supervisor Erdmann, the Clerk was authorized to purchase a new computer for the town hall. Motion passed.


Supervisor Gondeck will obtain another quote for the public address system in the new town hall.


Chair Gondeck commended Supervisor Lloyd Erdmann for saving the township considerable funds by being available at the construction site to oversee the dirt work. It was noted that Supervisor Erdmann and Ron Hommerding had relocated the proposed parking lot to save trees on the site. On motion by Supervisor Gondeck and second by Supervisor Erdmann, the board passed a motion to recommend that MTD Excavating stake the parking lot.  The meeting closed at 10:05pm with a motion by Supervisor Gondeck and second by Supervisor Erdmann to reconvene the following morning at 8am with Ron Hommerding regarding the water softener and staking of the parking lot.



The meeting reconvened at 8am at the Watab Town Hall on Wednesday, November 22nd to discuss the water softener and staking of the town hall parking lot. All Supervisors were present; Ron Hommerding and George Mastey were also present. The decision was made to purchase a water softener from Keman for $1,000 with a full guarantee. Permission was also granted to pay MTD Excavating an additional $500 for dirt work. Funds to cover this will be from savings in other areas. Supervisor Erdmann recused himself from discussion on this item and abstained from the vote. Motion made by Supervisor Gondeck and seconded by Supervisor McIntosh to take the above actions.  Motion passed.
